A CityMD Urgent Care facility is planned to open in Huntington village on Main Street in the space, pictured above, that was previously occupied by stationary store Lion in the Sun for 35 years.

The brick building where stationary store Lion in the Sun once operated in Huntington village for 35 years is being transformed into a CityMD Urgent Care facility.

Renovations to the 314 Main St. building, which Lion in the Sun occupied until it closed in March, began in September and are expected to be completed by the month’s end, George Hurioglu, a general contractor working on the building for CityMD, said Wednesday.

Hurioglu added that the planned urgent care facility will span nearly 2,500 square feet.

Other CityMD Urgent Care facilities, such as those in Commack and Syosset, provide services like walk-in treatment for injuries and illnesses, vaccinations, occupational medicine, pediatric care, laboratory services and on-site x-ray.

There is also a ProHEALTH Radiology urgent care facility located across Main Street and a few doors down from where CityMD plans to open its facility.

There have also been talks to build medical offices at the southeast corner of Main Street in Park Avenue, where the historic Platt's Tavern once stood. Developer Dominick Mavellia has been seeking approval from the Huntington Town Board to move forward with his plans, but the board has yet to make a ruling on a required zone change.
