Co-Op For Sale In Whitman’s Former Office
/A co-op in the building where Walt Whitman once worked as the editor of The Brooklyn Daily Eagle is on the market.
The two-bedroom, two-bathroom co-op is on the market for $1.425 million within Brooklyn Heights’ Eagle Warehouse building, the former office of the Eagle, where Whitman was its editor from 1846-1848. Whitman, a native of West Hills, later went on to found The Long-Islander in Huntington.
While at the Eagle, Whitman wrote over 800 pieces for the paper, including news stories, literature reviews, political commentary and some of his earliest poems.
The Eagle eventually moved out of the building toward the end of the century. From then on, the building was home to the Brooklyn Law School. And, in the early 1990s, it was transformed into a condominium complex, according to The New York Times.
The building is located at the intersection of Doughty Street and Elizabeth Place. There’s a doorman, fitness center, bike room and laundry room.
The 1,450-square-foot co-op unit comes fit with a home office.
