The Suffolk championship-winning Northport Tigers girls soccer team was recently recognized by the district’s school board for their achievement.

The board welcomed the team to its Nov. 29 meeting, during which Superintendent Robert Banzer congratulated the team on what was its second consecutive county championship, and all of their hard work.

Mark Dantuono, district director of health, physical education and athletics, additionally addressed the board and commended the team.

“This is a special group of girls,” Dantuono said. “Not only are they dedicated to excellence in their sport, but they’re dedicated to excellence in the classroom — they succeed in whatever they set their mind to.”

“The way they work together and care for each other is astounding,” added head coach Aija Gipp, “and without that level of camaraderie, this team wouldn’t be where they are today.”

Each of the Lady Tigers was awarded a plaque and a certificate of recognition by the board of education.
