A Friday afternoon crash in Melville injured eight people, one seriously, according to fire officials and Suffolk police.

The three-car crash occurred at around 12:20 p.m. on the Long Island Expressway South Service Road near Walt Whitman Road, according to police.

Travis Jones was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon eastbound on the South Service Road when his car struck a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Ashley Trickett that was driving southbound on Walt Whitman Road and made a left onto the South Service Road, police said.

The Altima then struck a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Michelle Lee, who was in front of the Altima after also making a left onto the South Service Road, according to police.

Trickett, 30, of Levittown, was seriously injured in the crash and brought to Nassau University Medical Center.

Jones, 30, of Freeport, was not injured, but his wife and four children were. Devona Sheppard, 27, and children ages 2, 4, 8 and 9 were brought by ambulances of the Melville and East Farmingdale fire departments to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. They were later released, according to police.

Lee, 25, of Allendale, New Jersey, was brought by a Plainview Fire Department ambulance to Plainview Hospital for treatment and then released.

Also assisting at the scene was the Dix Hills Fire Department. Huntington Manor Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad provided standby coverage, according to fire officials.

The Melville Fire Department dispatched four ambulances, a heavy rescue truck, an engine, paramedic unit and fire police, under the direction of Chief Jason Bernfeld and Assistant Chief David Kaplan.

Suffolk police said the investigation is continuing and all three cars were impounded for safety checks.
