PD: ‘Medical Emergency’ Before Fatal Crash

A Huntington Station man is dead after he apparently suffered from a “medical emergency” moments before crashing his vehicle on Tuesday, Suffolk police said.

The crash occurred at around 5:40 p.m. just south of the Walt Whitman Shops near 2394 New York Ave. in Huntington Station.

Police said 58-year-old Gary Capek was driving a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup northbound on New York Avenue when he apparently suffered a medical emergency and his vehicle left the roadway, striking two parked cars. Two occupants in one of the parked vehicles were not injured.

The Huntington Community First Aid Squad brought Capek to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Capek’s Ford was inspected for a safety check and the investigation is continuing, police said.
