Cops: Man Inappropriately Touched Girl, 8, At Library

A Huntington man was arrested yesterday for allegedly inappropriately touching an 8-year-old girl at Huntington Public Library Sunday, Suffolk police said.
Police said Christopher Elgut, 28, approached an 8-year-old girl who was standing behind her mother at the library counter at about 4:30 p.m. when Elgut picked up the girl and placed her behind a column inappropriately touched her. The girl screamed and Elgut fled on foot from the library, located at 338 Main St.
A description of the suspect was broadcast and Second Precinct Patrol officers located the suspect approximately 20 minutes later within a short distance.
Second Squad detectives charged Elgut first-degree sex abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of marijuana. He was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.
