A Bay Shore man is facing numerous charges after he led a pursuing cop car on a chase, before crashing the vehicle in Melville, Suffolk police said.
The incident started just past 3 a.m. on Aug. 5 when a patrolman attempted to pull over a car on New York Avenue at East 15th Street in Huntington Station. The officer said the car was being driven recklessly.
Another officer attempted to pull the driver over, but the suspect led police on a chase which ended when he lost control and crashed on Old Country Rd. near Ponderosa Dr. in Melville.
The driver later identified as Justice Bennett, 19, of Bay Shore, took off on foot, leaving three other passengers in the vehicle, one 13 and two 14 years old.
The car, a 2001 Ford, had been reported stolen from Bay Shore at 2:30 a.m., just less than an hour prior to the crash.
All four were taken to the Nassau University Medical Center by Melville Fire Department.
Bennett faces numerous charges, including with three counts of aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, ciminal possession of stolen property, and unlawful fleeing of police. Hospitalized with serious injuries, he was to be arraigned at a later date.
