An East Northport man was killed Saturday after he lost control of his Jeep and it overturned into a tree off of the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills, New York State police said.

Thomas Hardy, 22, was driving the 1997 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on the Northern State east of Exit 41 at around 1 p.m. Police said Hardy, who was traveling with one passenger, “lost control of the vehicle” and that the Jeep crossed onto the center median, hit a guard rail and overturned into a tree.

Hardy was brought to Huntington Hospital for treatment, but was later pronounced dead, according to police. His passenger was treated for his injuries and was listed in stable condition.

The Dix Hills Fire Department also responded to the crash. Firefighters used heavy rescue extrication tools to remove the Hardy and his passenger from the overturned Jeep. Around 40 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with five trucks, three ambulances and paramedic responder units, under the direction of Third Assistant Chief Joe Williamson.

State police have ask that anyone who witnessed the accident call 631-756-3300.
