Cannabis Dispensary Opens In Huntington
/Huntington’s first medical marijuana facility has opened its doors. Remedy, a medical cannabis dispensary, opened Wednesday with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at 277 Walt Whitman Road across the street and just south of Walt Whitman Shops.
The first Remedy location on Long Island, it is the fourth in New York State, following others in Mohawk Valley, Hudson Valley and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which also opened this week.
The opening comes on the heels of the acquisition of Valley Agriceuticals, which manages Remedy dispensaries, by Cresco Labs, considered “one of the largest vertically integrated multi-state cannabis operators in the United States,” according to a statement from the company. Cresco holds one of the 10 vertically integrated cannabis business licenses granted by the New York State Department of Health. Each license gives the operator the right to operate one cultivation facility and four dispensaries in New York.
Remedy Long Island offers a selection of capsules, topical creams, vape pens/cartridges, and oral tinctures. Patients must be certified for treatment of one of the state-approved medical conditions which include ALS, chronic pain, PTSD, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease, among others.
Remedy’s core mission of patient education and outreach aims to inform patients about using medical cannabis as medicine through private, one-on-one consultations.
“Our Remedy staff was trained by some of the leading cannabis experts in the country on the types of cannabis strains, delivery methods and what medicinal benefits are unique to them. We understand that this type of medicine is new for most people and we look forward to educating patients and the community, so they feel comfortable using this form of relief,” said Cresco Labs president and co-founder Joe Caltabiano. “Many people in our communities suffer needlessly from pain or can’t sleep or have appetite issues from any one of the conditions – this is a day for them to celebrate that there’s a new form of relief in Long Island.”
The doors are open at Remedy Long Island seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.remedy-ny.com or call 631-238-3670.
