National home décor retail chain HomeGoods is gearing to open its new Melville location next week.

The new store — the chain’s 70th in the state – would be the second HomeGoods within the Town of Huntington’s borders; a store already operates on Henry Street in Commack.

The 21,180-square-foot store is set to open at 881A Walt Whitman Road, behind the Bertucci’s restaurant, on Sunday, May 6.

Merchandise departments in the store will include furniture, rugs, lighting, gourmet kitchen and dining, bedding, bath, outdoor living and pet accessories.

Around 65 full and part-time jobs will be created by the story, and HomeGoods is looking to “support the Melville community by hiring store management and associates from the local area,” according to a statement emailed Tuesday.

The Massachusetts-based company also plans to donate $10,000 to Bethpage-based charity Island Harvest, which focuses on hunger relief on Long Island, during the grand opening ceremony.

“Our shopping experience is unlike any other retailer; our amazing values, designer brands and unique assortment make HomeGoods an exciting destination for shoppers,” stated HomeGoods President John Ricciuti. “We are thrilled to provide Melville shoppers with this exhilarating shopping experience.”

HomeGoods is a division of The TJX Companies, Inc, which also operates TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra Trading Post and Homesense in the U.S.

For Sunday’s grand opening, the Melville HomeGoods will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Regular store hours will be Monday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
