Centerport Man Dies After Car Leaves Road, Hits Tree

A Centerport man was killed Wednesday after his car veered off Fort Salonga Road and struck a tree, Suffolk police said.

William Hunter, 60, was driving the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on Fort Salonga Road near Stony Hollow Road at around 12 noon when the incident occurred, police said.

Centerport firefighters and EMS crews arrived and initiated resuscitation efforts on Hunter en route to Huntington Hospital. Hunter was pronounced dead at the hospital.

His vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
