Second Annual Soccer Golf Outing To Remember Late Knight

Sean Urda

The second annual soccer golf outing in memory of Sean Urda, an East Northport teen killed in a 2015 snow-tubing accident, is set for Saturday, July 29 at the Dix Hills Golf Course.

Urda was 17 years old, and finishing his senior year at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School, at the time of his accident. He was a standout student, and captain of the school’s boys soccer team.

“Join us in remembering the life of a young man whose smile lit up the room, whose laughter was contagious and whose heart warmed all those around,” reads a flyer for the outing.

Proceeds from the second annual outing will benefit the Sean Urda Memorial Soccer Scholarship, which is awarded each year to John Glenn senior soccer players; players on Sean’s former travel team, Score FC; and high schoolers across Suffolk who play for their school’s team or a club team.

Recipients, according to the Sean Urda Memorial Soccer Foundation website, “exemplify the traits that Sean possessed.” He showcased “strong family values, leadership, team play, [activeness] in school and [understanding of] the value of a good education.”

Registration for the soccer golf outing is $30. Participants will get to play a “9 Hole Scramble,” enter raffles, win prizes and enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Also included are 14 raffle entries. Registration is now open online, and will be the day of the opening.

There are also scholarship packages available.

There are two start times, 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Day-of registration will be available a half hour before both start times.

Players must bring their own soccer balls. The Dix Hills Golf Course is located at 575 Vanderbilt Parkway.
