The Cold Spring Harbor boys lacrosse team will continue its undefeated season with a bid for the Nassau Class C championship set for Tuesday.

The Seahawks secured a spot in the final with a 15-8 win over North Shore in the semifinal, which was played at Hofstra University Tuesday night.

“I thought we played a very good game, a very clean game overall,” coach Dennis Bonn said Wednesday. “Everybody did what they were supposed to do and when everybody does that, good things happen.”

Bonn said the team’s fast pace on the field added to their ability to gain a strong lead in the first half.

“We do that to get teams on their heels and it’s hard to catch up to us,” he added. “I think we wear teams down quickly with our speed and our aggressive style of play.”

Senior attacker Ian Laviano led the charge in the victory for top-seeded Cold Spring Harbor over fourth-seeded North Shore by scoring four goals and executing two assists.

Senior Matt Licciardi, a middie, also came up big in the game with two goals and four assists. He also went 12-for-18 on faceoffs, Bonn said.

Other contributing players were senior middie Taylor Strough with four goals and one assist, and junior attacker and middie Kevin Winkoff, who had two goals and two assists.

On the defensive end, Bonn said that junior goaltender Chris Porzelt played strong in the net, while defenders Dylan Guarneri, a senior, and juniors Hunter Guarneri, Aidan Hinphy and Liam Kaley played really well, nullifying North Shore’s attack.

In addition, Bonn said that the team’s long stick middies senior Matt DeGennaro and junior JT Roselle “did a fabulous job shutting down North Shore’s top midfielder Ryan Aughavin.”

Two-time defending state champions currently maintain a 17-0 record and are the only undefeated team in the state, Bonn said.

The county final is set for 8:30 p.m., May 30 at Hofstra. The Seahawks will face the winner of the Wednesday’s semifinal matchup between Lynbrook and Locust Valley.
