The 2014-2015 Northport/Huntington hockey team was crowned the New York State champion on March 1 after skating through the New York State Amateur Hock Association’s high school club tournament with a 4-0 record.
The boys advanced to the second round of the tournament after a 6-2 win over Arlington and a 4-2 win over West Islip. In the semifinal, Northport/Huntington defeated Ward Melville 4-1 and then rolled through the championship game with a 5-1 triumph over Arlington.
From there, the boys headed to the USA Hockey High School Varsity National Championship at the Hardee’s Iceplex Olympic Rink in Chesterfield, Mo. last week to compete in the Pure Division of the tournament. Northport/Huntington finished the trip 1-1-1 to add to its overall 2014-2015 record of 23-5-2 behind head coach Mike Porcello, who stands on far right.
