For the first time in Elwood-John Glenn High School history, the boys tennis team has gone undefeated throughout the entire regular season.

The Knights, who have won all 10 of their matches this spring, are led by coach Frank Schiraldi.

Schiraldi attributed his team’s success to a “very strong” singles roster, along with a distinguished set of doubles players.

First singles player Zak Siddiqui, fourth singles player James Russo and third doubles players Joe Gryski and Joe Doherty finished the season undefeated.

In their last match of the season, which was played Friday, the Knights shut out Kings Park, 7-0.

“Most of the match we were in control all the way,” Schiraldi said.

Schiraldi added that “big wins” from senior Tony Park, senior David Hermanns, freshman Andres Mady-Aguier and junior Bailey Leunig helped pave the Knights’ path to victory.

On Wednesday, the Knights were headed east to The Stony Brook School for the first round of the Suffolk team championships.

“If we can win this match, it would be the first time in 30 years that we have won a playoff match,” Schiraldi said. “So, we’ll see what happens.”

The individual championships will be held next weekend, when Glenn will compete in the Division I, League I and II portions. There, Schiraldi hopes that Siddiqui will earn a high seed in the tournament.
