2nd Annual Autism Run Hits Huntington Bay

The Greater Long Island Running Club and the ELIJA Foundation hosted the 2nd annual just cAUse we run Journey for Autism 5-Mile Run/1.5-Mile Walk over the weekend, drawing more than 300 participants.

The 5-mile run started at 8:30 a.m., Sunday at the Flower Hill School. Runners traveled north through the Village of Huntington Bay.

The overall winner of the race was Alex Eletto, 20, of Stony Brook, with a time of 29:42. The top female runner was Martha Delgado, 41, of Central Islip, with a time of 36:31.

Attending the event and sharing words of thanks and encouragement to the runners were Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone, Huntington Bay Mayor Herb Morrow and Huntington School District Superintendent Jim Polansky.

Proceeds from the run will go towards the ELIJA Farm, which services the autism community and promotes health and wellness across Long Island.

After the events, participants had the chance to enjoy some music, food, ice cream, face painting, raffles with prizes and a race awards ceremony.
