Tulip Fest Sprouts Up In Heckscher

Using a grant from the Huntington Arts Council, community members and volunteers assisted Splashes of Hope in creating a mural for a local Suffolk County children’s hospital. Pictured, a father and his son put on smocks so they can work on the half-painted mural.

Over 20,000 tulips in a rainbow of colors were planted around Heckscher Park, a sight that has drawn a massive crowd of visitors since the festival began in 2001.

Two Girl Scouts copy the dance moves of Mike Soloway, a children’s musician. Soloway and his band were one of the three performances who played the Chapin Rainbow Stage at the Tulip Festival, along with guitar ensemble Inkarayku and puppeteer Janice Buckner.

More than 20,000 tulips were ogled in Heckscher Park on Sunday as part of the town’s 17th annual Huntington Tulip Festival.

The festival, which was founded by Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, is free, family-oriented and took over the park in Huntington village, despite the somewhat bipolar weather. Hundreds of people flocked to the park to ogle the flowers, join the festivities and listen to musical performances on the Chapin Rainbow Stage that were organized by the Huntington Arts Council.
