Northport High School Counselor Named State’s Best

Jenny Konop was selected as the 2018 New York School Counselor of the Year by the New York State School Counselor’s Association.

The New York State School Counselor’s Association recently named a counselor at Northport High School as its 2018 New York School Counselor of the Year.

Jenny Konop was selected based on her excellence in counseling innovations, effective counseling programs, leadership and advocacy skills, and contributions to student advancement.

“One of our core beliefs at Northport is that students come first,” said high school Principal Daniel Danbusky, “and I can think of no better example than Jenny Konop, who is always putting students first.”

Konop excels in knowing what her students need, and provides an incredible amount of support to help them get to where they need to be, according to a news release that cited many different staff members and students.

“From day one, I knew she was someone I could connect with,” said one Northport High School student named Brielle. “She’s always there.”

Konop will travel to Washington, D.C. from Feb. 1-3 to be honored in a ceremony along with the national School Counselor of the Year and other state finalists.
