Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash On Turnpike

A crash at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Sweet Hollow Road in Huntington resulted in a motorcyclist’s death Oct. 30, police said. 

A Huntington man was killed in a motorcycle crash Oct. 30, Suffolk police said.

Michael Awamy, 52, was riding a black 2009 Kawasaki Ninja eastbound on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington at about 4:15 p.m. when, police said, he struck a 2008 Nissan Sentra that was traveling westbound and attempting to make a left turn onto Sweet Hollow Road.

Awamy was transported to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the other vehicle, Erick Sosa, 17, of Central Islip, was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
