Kia is looking to open a dealership in Huntington on Jericho Turnpike.

Kia, which doesn’t currently have a dealership in town, has submitted plans to the town via applicant West Islip-based JS Jericho Reality.

The dealership is eyed for 1720 East Jericho Turnpike, which was formerly a Toyota service center.

West Islip-based JM North Shore Motors LLC owns the property, according to documents submitted to the town.

Kia wants to convert the existing automobile prep center into a 20,400-square-foot dealership with almost no new construction, but slight changes to the front of the building, according to plans filed with the town last July.

The proposed dealership would have 18,000-square-feet of floor space on its first floor, and an additional 2,400 square feet in its mezzanine.

Plans also call for 59 parking spaces, which is in line with town code requirements.

The proposal is scheduled to be heard during a public hearing tonight, 6 p.m. before the Huntington Zoning Board of Appeals at town hall. The board is considering a special use permit for the converted use and signage, and continuing jurisdiction.
