The Town of Huntington has upgraded its smartphone app, expanded Wi-Fi at Town Hall and added wireless accessibility to the Dix Hills Ice Rink.
Since the app, called Huntington @ Your Service, was launched in April 2012, the town has received more than 40,000 requests for services.
Recent updates to the app make it easier for users to enter service requests. For instance, complaints about potholes can be made from the home screen, and the app uses geolocation to look up garbage and recycling schedules. There’s also one-touch dialing.
Additionally, the free app, which requires users to sign in to make requests, provides a variety of functions that link directly to the town’s website and social media accounts, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Users are also able to take and upload images, read the town’s news feed, learn the refuse pickup day for a particular location, view and find recreation facilities, nearby restaurants, businesses and libraries based on location services. The last update of Huntington @ Your Service went into effect in late March and early April, and can be downloaded at the Apple App store and Google Play.
“The town upgraded the mobile app and added Wi-Fi as part of the ongoing efforts to incorporate technological advances and residents’ preferences into the workings of town government,” Carter said.
In addition to the app upgrades, the town added Internet access in the Town Hall lobby, the town board meeting room and at the Dix Hills Ice Rink.
