Both the Town of Huntington and the Village of Northport will waive parking fees in their downtown areas this holiday season to encourage local residents to shop locally and stimulate business.

The Huntington Town Board voted last week to approve a resolution that would waive the parking meter fees in Huntington village beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, until New Year’s Day, a holiday season tradition that dates back to at least 1994, according to town spokesperson A.J. Carter. Parking in the Village of Northport will also be free during that time span.

The Huntington board-approved resolution also granted permission for the Huntington Chamber of Commerce and Huntington Business Improvement District Association as well as the Huntington Station Business Improvement District Association and the East Northport Chamber of Commerce to install holiday lights and decorations within their respective business districts.

The holiday decorations in Huntington village, Huntington Station and East Northport are authorized for the same time period that parking fees are waived, Nov. 24, 2017 to Jan. 1, 2018.
