Welcome To ‘Hauntington’

Angelica Cunningham received praise and a proclamation for her idea to call the town ‘Hauntington’ for a day.

The Town of Huntington will go by the name “Hauntington” for a day in the spirit of Halloween. Town board members last week voted to officially adopt the new moniker for Halloween, Oct. 31, repeating a similar move made a year ago at the suggestion of eight-year-old Angelica Dee Cunningham.

Cunningham penned a letter to Supervisor Chad Lupinacci last year suggesting the town adopt the clever name for the day.

“This was a very creative idea and it is the start of a new tradition to make celebrating Halloween a little more special in the Town of Hauntington for years to come,” Lupinacci said while presenting Cunningham with a proclamation to honor her initiative. “Angelica’s idea also inspired the Town Clerk and my office to do a Haunted Tour of the Town Clerk’s Archives this year, to explore Huntington – or Hauntington’s – haunted history preserved in the basement of Town Hall.”

Take the guided tour of the Hauntington Town Clerk’s Archives on Tuesdays and Fridays in October., and also on Halloween from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m
