Lacrosse, CPR Awareness Focus Of Annual Jamboree

Louis J. Acompora

The 17th annual Acompora Lacrosse Jamboree, sponsored by the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation, is slated for April 28.

The jamboree features lacrosse games, a lacrosse clinic, and a healthy dose of CPR awareness as a tribute to the late Louis J. Acompora who in 2000 collapsed after suffering a blow to the chest during his first high school lacrosse game. Acompora, 14, died from a condition known as commotio cordis as a result of the blow.

“We will also focus on educating the athletes and spectators in hands-only CPR and the importance of early heart disease detection in youths through screening,” Karen Acompora, co-founder of the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation, said.

This year’s event will consist of four boys high school lacrosse games and one girls high school lacrosse game.

The first games kick off at 10 a.m., when Bellport will take on Kings Park and Mount Sinai will face Eastport-South Manor. Then, at 12:15 p.m., Harborfields will face East Islip. Rounding out the boys’ slate will be Northport against Middle Country at 2:30 p.m.

Also at 2:30 p.m., the Northport girls will take on Wilton.

There will also be eight youth games and a lacrosse clinic for kids in grades K-1.

“Please join us for a great day of fun, food and lacrosse,” Karen Acompora added.

The jamboree is hosted at the turf fields at Veteran’s Park (279 Bellerose Ave., East Northport).

This year’s sponsors are Brine/Warrior Lacrosse; E.Armata; Minuteman Press International; Top Shelf Provision; Top Banana; Entenmanns; Frito Lay; Loeber Tens; Lewisy Fuel; and Crescent Meat Packing.
