The Fantasy Coach
Every week, managers of Fantasy Football address multiple decisions to their rosters. My goal is to take my 12 years of Fantasy sports experience and present an abstract view on Fantasy news. Check back every week for “The Fantasy Coach” as I review the major highlights of the previous Fantasy week and detail what to look for in the weeks ahead. And each week, I will provide a player at each position that could surprise (“Flames”) or put tears in your eyes (“Lames”).
Week 9 Flames
QB: Philip Rivers @ WAS
Rivers and the Chargers are fresh off their bye, facing a defense that has recently gone awry. It’s an ideal matchup for the offense and its receivers, and a great week to dispel his reputation as an “overachiever.”
RB: Darren Sproles @ NYJ
The tiny running back was shut down well last week, but keep yourself calm and try not to freak. Sproles has been as reliable as he has ever been; to bench him against the Jets would be an irreparable sin.
WR: Darrius Heyward-Bey @ HOU
It’s their first game since Reggie Wayne was lost for the year; Darrius will need to step up, take the wheel and steer. He has the speed to outrun any defender; plus it doesn’t hurt he plays for a title contender.
TE: Heath Miller @ NE
Big Ben has been targeting his old reliable tight end, and I do not see the Steelers stopping that trend. These two teams always seem to play hard, so expect Miller to be thrown to all over the yard.
DEF: Green Bay vs. CHI
Cutler is injured and the Packers are at home, better than last week at Minnesota’s dome. Going against McCown with minimal experience, they Pack will be great, just trust my guidance!
Week 9 Lames
QB: Andy Dalton @ MIA
Andy has played better than he has ever has, even though he doesn’t do it with much pizzazz. In the past he has had similar hot streaks, which he follows up with a performance that just reeks. (This is the one).
RB: Ryan Mathews @ WAS
Mathews is as inconsistent as a running back can get; sometimes he runs like he is stuck in net. The Chargers should be passing a bunch, so I’d bench him of you believe in my hunch.
WR: Vincent Jackson @ SEA
VJax was one of my Flames from last week’s edition, but versus Seattle you can’t ignore the statistician. The Seahawks secondary is second to none; rooting for Jackson this week will lack any fun.
TE: Charles Clay @ CIN
Clay has been steady and a touchdown fiend, but the Bengals have gelled into a defensive machine. Miami’s offense is not one to explode, so if you have Clay, bench him and keep him stowed.
DEF: Indianapolis @ HOU
The Colts defense are a very popular pick, but their success has been more “luck” than a scheme that’ll stick. Houston is banged up but still have great skill. Foster and Johnson can dominate…I suspect they will.
