The Huntington girls lacrosse team honored its eight seniors on Monday afternoon prior to its game against visiting West Babylon, celebrating the careers and contributions of a group of talented teenagers.

The Upper Room Royals completed their first season under head coach Tom Femminella last month, securing a 19-6 overall record and third place in the East Region of the National Prep Championships in South Carolina.

With the initials “N.G.” and a breast cancer symbol stitched on the sleeves of their warm up shirts, and pink ribbons dangling from their hair and cleats, the Cold Spring Harbor girls lacrosse team honored the late Niki Gregory, a former longtime team supporter who died last October. Gregory, 62 at the time of her death, was a cancer survivor for nearly three decades.

The 15th annual Acompora Lacrosse Jamboree, sponsored by the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation, is slated for next Sunday, April 30. As always, the jamboree features youth and high school varsity lacrosse games, and a healthy dose of CPR awareness.

Every year, students across grades 1-8 at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in East Northport decide on an end-of-the-year project. This year, the 20 participating classes, banded together to aid a cause that stretches far past East Northport. They’re raising money to build a medical clinic for a village in Kisoro, Uganda.

The $1.2 million James C. Metzger Stadium at St. Anthony’s High School is now open. The turf playing field, which is located on the southeast lawn of the high school, near the intersection of Pigeon Hill, Wolf Hill and Old Country roads, was unveiled, dedicated and blessed on Saturday.

The 10th annual Marcie Mazzola Memorial 5K Walk/Run will kick off from the Huntington YMCA (60 Main St., Huntington) at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 10. As always, the event works to keep a young woman’s memory alive while helping those in need of a boost.

Half Hollow High School East’s senior track star, Mary Chimezie, claimed first place in yet another 300-meter dash last weekend.

The Half Hollow Hills West boys basketball team is Suffolk’s best team this season. Hills West defeated Harborfields by one point on Sunday, 57-56, in the county’s overall title game.

It all started 17 years ago in the cement basement of an Elwood home where two cousins, Joey Giaramita and Lou Puca, officially began their wrestling careers, kicking off what would become the Blue Wave Wrestling Club.

The Long Island chapter of the USA Track and Field Association named on Sunday Blue Devil track star Infinite Tucker the male junior athlete of the year, and recognized his Huntington High School track coach, Ron Wilson.
