PD: Man Busted Dealing Drugs
A man who went to a CVS parking lot to sell drugs—and not the legally prescribed kind—was arrested while attempting to sell cocaine in Northport last Wednesday, according to published reports.
The Northport Village Police department confirmed that Matthew Higgins, 20, of Mineola, was arrested on Jan. 22 for criminal sale of a controlled substance, but would not elaborate on further details of the case.
Northport Police Chief Ric Bruckenthal on Tuesday said the investigation into charges brought against Higgins, who according to an arrest report also faces criminal charges for possession of marijuana and another controlled substance, is continuing and therefore, police officials could not comment further.
However, published reports—shared on the Northport Village Police’s social media site on Tuesday—said Higgins was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Jan. 22 when officers observed him pull in to a CVS parking lot to allegedly meet a buyer.
Northport police officers said they saw Higgins’ 2008 BMW drive into the lot and initiate the sale. Officers then apprehended the individuals involved in the sale and searched Higgins’ vehicle, where police allegedly found an unknown amount of cocaine, a small quantity of marijuana and a packet of Suboxone inside Higgins’ wallet, according to the reports.
Police reports from the village department, which redacted the details of Higgins’ arrest, stated only that the defendant “was arrested after an investigation for numerous charges.”
