It was a bittersweet moment at the Long Island Pageants’ 2018 award ceremony last Sunday, as Taylor Yaeger of Dix Hills passed the torch to the winner of the 2018 Miss Long Island Teen.

“This has been the best year of my life, an absolute dream come true and I was able to meet so many amazing people throughout my reign and help so many causes,” Yaeger, 19, of said. “I was so excited to crown a new queen because I know she’s about to embark on one of the best journeys of her life.”

Yaeger, Miss Long Island Teen 2017, had the honor of crowning Alexa Cox, of Central Islip, as the 2018 Miss Long Island Teen.

“You can tell she’s going to do a great job,” Yaeger said. “She holds all the qualities that the next Miss Long Island Teen should uphold and I’m just so excited to see what she accomplishes.”

Based on her own experience, Yaeger advises her successor to make as many appearances in the community as she can.

“The year is what you make it and it’s going to fly by so make the most of it and treasure every moment because it’s done in a blink of an eye,” she added.

Yaeger was crowned 2017 Miss Long Island Teen in July 2016. During her reign she promoted an autism awareness platform. Yaeger participated in several charities that promote autism awareness and other advocacies, such as heart disease, breast cancer and more.

“I did so many walks that really allowed me to spread awareness for different causes,” Yaeger said. “I learned how to be a true leader and know that you can make a difference in your community.”

She also had the honor of crowning participants in the Miss Exceptional Long Island pageant.

Yaeger represented Long Island in the Miss New York Teen 2017 in January, where she was the third runner up for competition. She also modeled in New York Fashion Week this past year.

Going forward, Yaeger will continue her efforts in her autism awareness platform and hopes to compete in more pageants.

Yaeger will be entering her sophomore year at Long Island University C.W. Post, majoring in health and sciences, with hopes to be an orthodontist. She graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School East in 2016.

The Long Island Pageant awards ceremony for 2018 Miss Long Island Teen and 2018 Miss Long Island was hosted by J & L Productions, Inc., and was held at the Madison Theatre at Molloy College on Aug. 6.

Other Huntington residents who participated in the pageant include Inpreet Rattu, of Huntington Station, who was named the Community Queen Miss and Miss Congeniality Miss Division, and was the 2018 Miss Long Island third runner up; and Katie Zimmer, of Commack, who was awarded the Pageantry Spirit and Miss Congeniality Teen Division awards.
