Lady Thunderbirds Tout Undefeated Record

The Half Hollow Hills East varsity boys basketball team this season makes winning look easy. Boasting a 4-0 record in League II and an 8-0 record in non-league play, the Thunderbirds are a shining example of success on the basketball court.

Taking on Sachem North Jan. 4, the T-Birds outscored their opponents by 30 points and walked away victorious with a 68-38 win.

Senior Mike Simon scored 14 points and senior captain Jordan McRae added 13 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks to lead the T-Birds over the Flaming Arrows. Last Saturday, senior captain Grant Rosenberg, junior Justin Fackler and sophomore D’Nathan Knox each added 7 points. Junior Spencer Stein scored 6 points and junior Spencer Wiley added 5 points while senior Mike Boyd added 11 assists, 7 steals and 2 points.

On Dec. 21 the T-Birds hosted West Islip in a non-league game which they won 55-29. Hills East consistently put up double-digits on the scoreboard in all four quarters, scoring 16 points in the first and second periods followed by 13 in the third and 10 in the fourth. Against the Lions, McRae scored 14 points and had 16 rebounds. Stein added 12 points and Simon scored 8 points, while senior Luke Perlowski added 6 points for the Thunderbirds.

At Walt Whitman High School on Dec. 20, Hills East put up 23 points in a single period and outplayed the Wildcats both offensively and defensively to earn the T-Birds a 64-47 win.

Against Whitman, Simon scored 16 points and had 7 assists. Boyd added 15 points, 7 steals and had 8 assists for the T-Birds. Rosenberg scored 7 points, and Perlowski and junior Kyle Barnes each added 6 points for Hills East.

The team was scheduled to host Northport for a home game on Tuesday but scores were not available by press time. On Jan. 10 the Thunderbirds will play away at Bay Shore, where game time is set for 6 p.m.
