DWI Charge After Car Crashed Into Motorcycle

Huntington’s Connie O’Hara was charged with DWI after she struck East Northport’s Karen Labarbera, who was riding her motorcycle Aug. 30.

An East Northport woman who was thrown from her motorcycle when a car crashed into her remained hospitalized as of Tuesday, officials at Stony Brook University Medical Center confirmed.

The woman who is accused of running her down on Pulaski Road has been arraigned on DWI charges.

Police said Huntington’s Connie O’Hara, 51, was driving a 2013 Volkswagen westbound on Pulaski Road Aug. 30 when she attempted to turn left onto Butterfield Drive at 7:15 p.m. However, O’Hara crashed into Karen Labarbera, 52, who was traveling eastbound on Pulaski on her 2002 Honda motorcycle.

“It was a serious accident for sure,” said Greenlawn Fore Department Chief Scott Waryold.

A roadside sobriety test showed “signs of impairments” according to a source.

Suffolk County police were tending to Labarbera when firefighters arrived, Waryold said. Labarbera suffered head and left leg injuries and was taken by Medevac via a staging ground at BAE Systems to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. Volunteers from the Greenlawn Fire Department, Huntington Manor Fire Department and Huntington Community First Aid Squad responded to the crash.

O’Hara was arrested and charged with DWI and pleaded not guilty. She is being held on $100,000 bail and $200,000 bond, which has not been posted, according to online court records. She is due back in Suffolk First District Court on Thursday, Sept. 5.
